"I was inspired to study after I found out that people with special needs like me can study, " Farhiya said.

Farhiya and I during the exam  It is not easy when you have special needs to study with people who do not have it!  I met Farhiya Mohamud Mohamed at Mogadishu University when I was taking an exam. It was the first time in my life that I have taken an exam with a visually impaired person. On the 1 st day of the exam, I thought that a special exam was prepared for her because she has special needs and is visually impaired, but I was surprised when I saw that the exam for all the students was also brought to her. The subject she was taking the exam on that day was statistics. I asked Farhiyo about the subject she is taking and whether she is ready for the exam! She replied, "I am ready, write me the answers I will tell you".She had a lot of confidence. Working on that subject took us a lot of time compared to other subjects because it involved a lot of operations and functions,  even including different graphs and figures for drawing. Farhia was very difficult becaus...

Ego is the enemy by Ryan Holiday: book reflection.

Image
EGO is the ENEMY book I have read it. kindly I would like to share with you a bit of reflection about the Eggo is the enemy book that I have read. wish you enjoy reading it. let's start..... “ WHEREVER YOU ARE, EGO IS TOO,”  says Ryan Holiday Ego is the Enemy, published in 2016, is Rayan Holidays' fourth book and international bestseller. This is the second book in which he draws the principles of stoicism while his previous book, The obstacles is the way, focused on overcoming life’s external obstacles. Holiday’s background is media strategies. The book is structured to be short, and easy to split into three parts: Aspiration, Success, and Failure. These being three phases that one invariably finds themselves in at any given moment, often alternating between them over the course of life. As the book says, “Aspiration leads to success (and adversity). Success creates its own adversity (and hopefully, new ambitions). And adversity leads to aspiration and more success. It’s an...

The incredible benefits of a 30-day reading challenge with my friends: Reflection.

Image
I am so fortunate to have these wonderful friends, we taught each other blog-writing training at the SPA centre for learning and development. We were classmates and now we are close friends, because of our reading habits. One of the benefits of good friends is that they always bring your life a positive side and add good values to your life, which is a big bonus for me. We agreed with each other to develop ourselves for reading challenges. Creating a reading habit is good and it's one of the most important habits to have. After 30 days of reading challenges with my friends  Abdala, Omar, and Hiba I created myself-reading habit which developed my way of thinking and added new knowledge to my brain because reading challenges help you to set reading goals, get a better night’s sleep, build discipline, and earn a feeling of accomplishment and Increase your knowledge, all of these I earned during challenge Alhamdulillah. During the challenge, I read more than 2 books and a lot...

My reflection on the Blog Writing and Storytelling Training: "The month that my blogging dream came true"

Image
It’s very important to get a place where you can express your ideas and know how to share your thoughts with others in an appropriate manner. Blog writing becomes an essential skill nowadays because technology develops quickly, and everything becomes digitalized. Firstly, I had the desire to learn blog writing skills, and it is one of my dreams that I become a blogger one day. Finally, I am getting closer to becoming a regular blogger after the successful completion of an eye-opening blog writing training course at the Somali Public Agenda. I used to read more blogs that were written by some of my friends, the SPA team, especially internship reflections and others, and I really enjoyed it when I read them and I liked to become like them, and that made me love blogging even more. However, the biggest motivation was that I wanted to share with people my stories and experiences and hustle in my life such as my university journey, which was a wonderful story as I became one of the firs...

The power of youth volunteerism in Somalia

Image
Do you know the importance of volunteerism? Are you aware that there are a lot of Somali youth who are volunteering their time, energy and resources to impact their communities, especially those who are facing dire humanitarian situations? In this Blog post , I would like to share with you the stories of Somali youth who study Social Work in the country and are championing community volunteerism initiatives? First, let’s briefly understand who is youth? In Somalia, there are no clear definitions on who is youth. However, the Somali National Youth Policy stipulates youth as someone between the ages of 15 to 40. This contradicts The United Nations’ definitions for youth. The United Nations defines youth as a person between "the ages of 15 to 24. In addition to that, the African Youth Charter defines youth as a person between the ages of 15-25. African Youth Chartre.pdf . Somalia has a youthful demographic like "most" other countries in sub-Saharan Africa. 75 percen...
